Unbounded innovation. I study how entrepreneurs and SMEs mobilise knowledge, networks and ecosystem resources across places to innovate, internationalise and contribute to sustainable futures.
My work connects entrepreneurial ecosystem and knowledge spillover research with SME internationalisation. I am an expert in business strategy and policy design for overcoming place-based constraints on entrepreneurship, innovation and growth. I am particularly interested in how power, institutions, values and connections across places shape entrepreneurial activity, and how international partnerships, digital connectivity and resilience influence the development of small firms. As Director of the New Zealand Asia Institute, I also lead research and engagement on New Zealand’s relationships with Asia.
